About Prescribed Patient
Clear, accurate answers to the questions every UK medical cannabis patient ends up Googling — insurance, driving, travel, work and your legal rights.
Why this site exists
More than 60,000 people in the UK now hold a legal prescription for a cannabis-based medicine. Almost all of them run into the same wall: the medicine is legal, but the practical world — insurers, employers, the DVLA, border officials — hasn't caught up. Reliable information is scattered across legislation, regulator guidance and forum hearsay.
Prescribed Patient exists to close that gap. Every guide on this site takes a real question patients face and answers it in plain English, referenced against the actual rules: MHRA guidance, Home Office licensing frameworks, DVLA medical standards, FCA and ABI positions, and UK legislation.
We don't sell cannabis, we don't prescribe it, and we're not affiliated with any clinic. We explain the rules so you can make informed decisions.
Who writes this
Prescribed Patient is produced by an editorial team led by a UK pharmaceutical regulatory specialist with more than fifteen years' experience in the sector, including:
- ◆Senior quality and validation roles within blue-chip pharmaceutical manufacturing environments
- ◆A formal Responsible Person (GDP) qualification under UK wholesale distribution regulations
- ◆Day-to-day professional work with MHRA, Home Office and GDP/GMP regulatory frameworks, including those governing cannabis-based products for medicinal use (CBPMs)
Our editorial lead works within these regulations professionally. We keep the team anonymous so the site is judged on the accuracy of its sourcing — every material claim in our guides is referenced to a primary source you can check yourself.
What we will and won't do
We will
- ◆Explain UK law and regulator guidance in plain English
- ◆Tell you what insurers and employers actually ask
- ◆Show you where the official sources are
- ◆Update guides when the rules change
We won't
- ◆Give you medical advice
- ◆Recommend whether you should take any medicine
- ◆Tell you which insurance product to buy
- ◆Promote any clinic or prescriber
For decisions about treatment, speak to your doctor. For financial decisions, speak to an FCA-regulated adviser.
Transparency
Members of our editorial team work professionally in the UK pharmaceutical and medical cannabis sector. To keep that from influencing content, we follow strict rules set out in our Editorial Policy: no company connected to any team member is ever covered, reviewed or recommended, and no clinic or prescriber is ever endorsed.
Prescribed Patient is funded by on-site advertising and, where clearly labelled, affiliate partnerships. No company pays for editorial coverage.
